Nominations

Thanks to all who took time to send their story.  It has been wonderful to share in all the wonderful thoughts about people who would somehow enjoy a ukulele.  Whether it was a simple remembrance, a heartfelt solicitation or even a wishful self-nomination, each message I received was always enjoyable.  Now I get to share them with everyone.

In order to respect everyone's privacy, I will be using first names only, if at all, with the exception of those that have celebrity status, even if it is only with uke minded folk.  I also realize the uke community at times is very small, making first names recognizable.  But you'll have to go after someone else besides me for that.

I'll update these as often as I can and post new ones at the top.  This page was last updated on September 8, 2004.

More to come...

The best nomination so far.  Tom wrote in early on to tell me about Gary who had posted how his home had burnt down with all his possessions including several treasured ukulele.  I tried to get more info, but could not find the original posting.  Fast forward a couple of months and Tom writes me again, simply to let me know that the giveaway idea touched him and he boxed up one of his ukes and shipped it off.  Wow!  I also liked what Tom wrote - "Although I've never actually met the guy, I figure that a fellow uke player is not a  stranger."

A couple of nominations came in for Dominic.  Many in the uke community know of him as the Dominator.  He runs a very helpful, no charge, website, arranging and posting ukulele tab for many comtemporary recordings in his little spare time, most of the time coordinating with the artist to make sure he gets it right.  What an effort!  I ended up meeting Dominic at one of his rock guitar playing gigs, got a tour of his uke building garage later, and gave him a concert ukulele I had won so he could have an additional uke with a different tuning to make tab creation easier.   Definitely a good friend.

Mandie, having only been playing for a month and a half,  wrote in extolling the virtues of the ukulele community.  In her search for a new case for her gift ukulele she posed the question on how to make a cheap (student budget) case on a popular ukulele bulletin board.  She nominated a person going by the name of Diesel who quickly responded, got her address and sent her a new chipboard case.  For free!

I received email  from Ben and Shawn nominating each other.  Shawn is a budding songwriter, "Techno" music enthusiast, and Ben has been instrumental in introducing him to the ukulele.  And they are apparently very good friends.

Mark nominated Robert Wheeler, a uke player featured in the "Rock That Uke" documentary.  Here is a MP3 of Robert Wheeler - "I'll Be Seeing You"

Within hours of posting this website, I received a nomination from John in Nevada for his 7-year old son.   At that time there were no links to my site.  I'll have to find out how he found me!

Here is a delightful, fanciful story that came from Andy.  I thoroughly enjoyed it, hope you do to.  Follow this link to Andy's story.
