Details February, 2010
Lil' Rev Lil Rev presents his 2010 workshop - Novelty Songs for Ukulele Learn from a great grab bag of easy and fun ukulele songs from the blues, jazz, ragtime and rock traditions while also learning how to spice them up with classic novelty strokes like the zig-zag, figure-8 and fan stroke. Humorous, bawdy, antiquated and silly are the songs you will find in this collection. Open to all levels.
Gorge Uke Fest 2010 Based in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, the Gorge Uke Fest is held annually to benefit local area school music programs. This years activities, artists, and teachers include a screening of "The Mighty Uke", a documentary about the ukulele, performances by Moe Dixon, James Hill, Victoria Vox and the Langley Ukulele Ensemble and workshops with them and many others. Hope you can make it. March, 2010
Tahoe Area Ukulele
Festival II For 2010, the fest will be held March 19-21 at the beautiful John Ascuaga’s Nugget Resort in Sparks, Nevada, (think Reno), just a few miles up the freeway from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. With the low rates Southwest has been offering, there’s no reason you shouldn’t hop a plane and come on up! Your uke rides free! In addition to a workshop lineup of superb uke instructors and displays by numerous uke makers and vendors, the fest will feature twin concerts in the Nugget’s Celebrity Showroom featuring two of the premier ukesters in the universe, Jake Shimabukuro and James Hill! See you there.
Casey MacGill's Blue 4
Trio Casey MacGill's Blue 4 Trio performs music that swings. Nat "King" Cole Trio meets the Mills Brothers. Fats Waller meets Fats Domino. Slim Galliard meets Fred Astaire. It is music of many decades and no decade in particular, all happening at the same time, woven into a seamless, beautiful whole. At the core of this group's sound are the band's sometimes sweet, sometimes rough-hewn three-part harmony vocals and a piano-ukulele-bass-and-drums rhythm section that swings in a variety of textures. Brook Adams
Brook Adams is a ukulele madman with a strong voice and guitar and ukulele chops too. He describes his collection of novelty songs, tv themes, modern pop and swing-era classics as a musical cartoon of the 20th century. Of course, he is well known for playing the Beatles' ABBEY ROAD album start to finish on ukulele. Find out more at - www.brookadams.com
