Please join us for a special afternoon workshop with Fred Sokolow

Fred Sokolow is best known as the author of a library of instructional books and DVDs for guitar, banjo, Dobro, mandolin, lap steel and ukulele. There are currently over a hundred of his books or DVDs in print, sold all over the world. Fred has long been a well-known West Coast multi-string performer and recording artist, particularly on the acoustic music scene. The diverse musical genres covered in his books and DVDs, along with several bluegrass, jazz and rock CDs he has released, demonstrate his mastery of many musical styles. Whether he's playing Delta bottleneck blues, bluegrass or old-time banjo, 30s swing guitar or screaming rock solos, he does it with authenticity and passion.

Soloing Strategies

This will be Fred's second visit to DaSilva Ukulele Co. Fred will be building on his previous workshops on fretboard roadmaps with this workshop designed to help you develop and refine your ukulele solos.

When you see a uke player shredding, playing amazing solos up and down the fretboard, they're not flying blind...they have a plan. Even when improvising, a soloist has strategies or guidelines (you might even call them roadmaps). Sometimes it's about scales, sometimes about chords, but there's always a plan, or several different plans.

If you're tired of always strumming and would like to occasionally play solos, Fred will reveal some of the more useful strategies to get you started, whether you play alone or with other people. You'll come away with several approaches to try out at the next jam session. You'll also gain some insight into how to play chord-melody solos. Bring your uke and be prepared to play along with Fred, with an assist from his wife Lynn and the big upright bass!
