Lorenzo Vignando (Ukulollo) and Craig Chee
Workshop and mini-concert
November 4, 2012 @ DaSilva Ukulele Co.

Please join us for a very special afternoon of workshops and concert with Lorenzo Vignando and Craig Chee.

Lorenzo Vignando

Lorenzo Vignando will be visiting us all the way from Italy.  He is well known worldwide and via his popular YouTube videos.

Lorenzo will be presenting special techniques to strengthen your "Latin" sound.  His "Right Hand Rumba (and Cha Cha Cha)" workshop will show you how to master two wonderful strum patterns - the rumba and the cha-cha-cha.

If you think they are just old fashion latin styles, get ready for some surprises!  You'll find out they are very versatile instead, and they have many modern applications.  The rumba, will allow you to amaze the listener with the speed of your hand plus the hits on the body of the uke.  It is perfect for playing dance music! And if you just slow down it becomes the perfect strumming for ukulele songs like "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World". And if you change the accent of the strum it become the ultimate reggae tempo.  The cha-cha-cha is perfect to give a wonderful latin flavour to songs like "Besame mucho", but it's imitation of the sound of the guiro on the fingerboard makes it perfect for songs such as "Stand By Me", "Goodnight Moon" or "Sign your name".

Craig Chee

Wanting to bring something to share on the mainland, Craig Chee chose to focus on the ukulele before leaving Hawai’i for college. Although Craig had grown up playing the cello and piano, he wanted something that gave a little more distinction of coming from the islands.

During Christmas and summer breaks of his Freshman year at the University of Oregon, Craig has had the pleasure of studying under Jake Shimabukuro and Troy Fernandez. Jake has been a continual inspiration and a mentor. Ever since then Craig has been trying to further experiment with the ukulele in settings that aren’t typically associated with the instrument.

Craig is currently working with Sean Ponder, Theo Halpert and Joey Hepner creating a sound that is a mix of Island, rock, and funk. The Craig Chee Band will get you on your feet dancing and is described as being “an extremely fun collaboration of musicians.” Their first album has just come out and is available at BandCamp and on iTunes.

Craig Chee Workshop

Craig will be presenting his workshop: "Bridging the Gap".   Craig's workshop is currently the most popular master class workshop on UkuleleUnderground.com.  This workshop presents a break down of techniques that will take your playing to the next level with a huge emphasis on technique building (both right and left hand techniques).  We will focus on intricasies that are typically overlooked.  With a significant amount of material to be covered, this workshop will be followed up with additional online video.
