Abe Lagrimas Please join us for a very special evening concert and mini-workshop with Abe Lagrimas Jr. In a rare visit to the SF Bay Area, (as a ukulele performer), Abe will share his unique approach to the ukulele as he is primarily a drummer with an emphasis on playing jazz on the ukulele and refining improvisation skills. Abe will also be giving away a Pono Concert ukulele, courtesy of Ko'olau Guitar & Ukulele Company. You do have to be in attendance to win. Abe Lagrimas, Jr. is a versatile multi-instrumentalist from Honolulu, HI who began his musical journey when he first sat behind a drum set at the age of four. As he studied more about drums and music, Abe gained an interest in learning other instruments as his music career progressed. Predominantly known as a drummer, he has backed up many of the world's greatest ukulele players such as Jake Shimabukuro, James Hill, Bill Tapia, Benny Chong, and Daniel Ho, yet he himself is equally proficient on the ukulele and the vibraphone. In 2011, Abe received his first Na Hoku Hanahano Award for Extended Play (EP) Release of the Year, for his record "Solo Ukulele: The King of Pop". Check out a this track from Abe's Michael Jackson tribute album:
In listening to Abe's arrangements and playing I find it amazing that the ukulele is not even his primary instrument. His sense of melody and rhythm as well as his improvisational skills puts him amongst the best contemporary ukulele musicians. In looking at how busy Abe is with all the music projects he is involved in, I think it will be a treat see him here at DaSilva Ukulele Co. Hope you can join us.
